Getting about on the headland on wheels or by foot

About 1 million pople visit Hengistbury Head every year to enjoy the countryside, history and wildlife. There are plenty of routes around Hengistbury Head. Riverside, there is a flat, tarmacked road shared between pedestrians, the land train and cyclists.

Why not cycle in? The headland is accessible by bike from Wick, Southbourne and Mudeford- the ferry charges a nominal fee for cycles. We recommend you leave your bike locked at the Visitor Centre (where we have a free DIY service station and pump).

For those exploring on foot, there are a myriad of paths winding across the the reserve, reaching up onto Warren Hill, where, earned with a little effort, you can enjoy the spectacular views,

If you’re less confident about finding your way, or just want some expert knowledge to add a little more to your visit, why not check out our events listings to see if there’s a guided walk happening?

Whatever your plans for the day, the friendly staff and volunteers at the Visitor Centre will help you make the most of your visit.
