Beautiful artwork by local artist, Lisa Berkshire

In our upstairs gallery in the Visitor Centre. The exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 4pm, and 5pm at weekends.

 

Summer/Autumn Events

Guided Nature Walks and Events

All walks/events start from the Visitor Centre. Booking is essential  -  please phone the Visitor Centre on 01202 128444.

   

Thursday 25th July, 10.30am to 12.30pm

Wild Flower Walk

A walk with one of our rangers, identifying wild flowers on the nature reserve, and hearing some of the fascinating folklore associated with them. £6.50 per person including a hot drink and a biscuit at the end of the walk.

 

Tuesday 13th August, 2pm to 4pm

Nature Journaling

Join Lorraine and Sally for another session with help and advice on how to sketch the nature that you see on your walks. Bring your own sketch pad and materials if you have them, but some materials can also be provided. £12 per person, including a cup of tea or coffee.

 

Thursday 15th August, 10.30am to 12.30pm

Summer Wildlife Walk

A gentle stroll looking for the flora and fauna of summer, including birds, flowers and insects. £6.50 per person, including refreshments at the end of the walk.

 

Tuesday 27th August, 10.30am to 12.30pm

The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast

A poetry and nature walk with charming poems from this beautifully illustrated book by William Plomer and Alan Aldridge. £6.50 per person, £2 for under-16s, including refreshments after the walk.

 

Tuesday 10th September, 2pm to 4pm

Nature Journaling 

Another sketching/painting session with Lorraine and Sally, full of hints and tips on sketchin what you see in nature. There is a different theme each month. Bring your own sketch pad and materials if you have them, but some materials can also be provided. £12 per person, including a cup of tea or coffee. 

 

Tuesday 24th September, 11am to 1pm 

Autumn Equinox Walk

A nature walk with around the theme of the autumn equinox (which is on Sunday 22nd September), when autumn officially begins. Enjoy the walk and then return to the visitor centre for refreshments. £6.50 per person.

 

Tuesday 8th October, 2pm to 4pm

Nature Journaling

An autumn journaling session with Lorraine and Sally. Lots of hints and tips on how to record the things you see in nature. Includes a short walk to do artowrk outdoors (if the weather allows). £12 per person, including refreshments.

 

Thursday 17th October, 10.30am to 12.30pm

"Seasons of Mists...."  -  Autumn Poetry

An nature stroll to look for autumn wildlife, with lots of lovely autumn poetry along the way. Feel free to bring along your favourite autumn poem to share. £6.50 per person, including refrehsments at the end of the walk.

 

Friday 8th November, 10.30am to 1pm

Autumn Birds

Join us for a walk on Hengistbury Head, to look for the varied bird life of autumn, including egrets, wading birds, ducks and more. Bring binoculars if you have them. £6.50 per person, including refreshments at the end of the walk.

 

Thursday 12th December, 10.30am to 12.30pm

Seasonal Folklore and Poetry

A nature walk with lots of seasonal/festive folklore and poetry along the way, from finding out what is the best tree to use for a yule log, to the much-loved poem, The Night Before Christmas. £7.00 per person, including a hot drink and mince pie at the end of the walk.

 

  

Performing The Past

Take a look at our full 'Performing the Past' events programme, where you can take part in events, guided walks and activities showing Hengistbury Head as a scene of settlement and ceremony for more than twelve thousand years.

All walks will start at 10am and last up to 2 hours. These events are free with no need to book. Please note that these are not Council-led walks.
