Discovery Den
Welcome to our outdoor classroom - the Disovery Den, which opened in 2021.

It’s time for school children and local people to uncover the nature reserve they love so much! The 'Discovery Den' is a sheltered classroom space, located close to the Visitor Centre and offers innovative activities to educate young people about the value of nature.

The project has been funded by a partnership between BCP Council, Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Kingston Maurward College.
Why visit the Discovery Den

We hope that using the Discovery Den will inspire everyone (and especially young people) to care for for nature in their garden, local park or the school playing fields. It is a great space for schools to run teacher-led visits, while families and community groups can run extra-curricular activities such as bug hunting or pond-dipping at weekends or evenings – and as it is an accessible structure built from two clad shipping containers, with a connected deck area, you can be safe in the knowledge there is a dry space to escape the British weather!
Schools and colleges can run activities in the surrounding environment to encourage positive physical and mental health. Students at Kingston Maurwood College can also benefit from undertaking fieldwork in the surrounding landscape.
