Discover the Magic of Our Wildlife Garden
A Year-Round Sanctuary
Tucked beside the Visitor Centre, our wildlife garden is a peaceful retreat teeming with life and colour in every season. Carefully nurtured by a dedicated team of volunteers, this vibrant space is more than just a garden – it’s a living, breathing celebration of nature.
Every Wednesday morning, our volunteers roll up their sleeves to weed, prune, plant, and dream up new features. Thanks to their creativity and care, the garden now boasts a fragrant chamomile lawn and a sedum-roofed bug hotel – just a few of the many touches that make this space so special. They also host occasional activity days and plant sales, sharing their passion and knowledge with visitors of all ages.
Throughout the year, you’ll find a rich tapestry of wild and native plants, with the summer months bringing the flower meadow into full, glorious bloom.
In recent years, our gardeners have delved into the past, researching ancient crops once grown on Hengistbury Head. Their findings have blossomed into a fascinating trial plot, nestled between the ‘foxes’ bench and the compost heaps, where you’ll find heritage plants like Darnel and Flax growing once again.
Come and explore – there’s always something new to discover in our wildlife garden.
