Lifelong learning and group visits
We offer a range of opportunities for lifelong learning. The nature reserve and Visitor Centre regularly welcome local groups with interests ranging from photography and birdwatching to basket-making and ancient history.

Entry to the Centre is free, though for groups of more than 10 we kindly ask for a small donation. We also offer guided tours and illustrated talks at very reasonable rates.
To help us manage group visits – especially as we often host school groups – we ask that all visits be booked in advance. If you're planning a group outing, please contact us to find out how we can help you make the most of your day.
The ‘Outdoor Office’: conservation work days for companies
Looking for a meaningful team-building experience? Our conservation work days offer companies and organisations a unique opportunity to make a real difference for local wildlife – all within the stunning setting of Bournemouth’s nature reserves.
Guided by one of our Countryside Rangers, your team will take on practical tasks that support rare habitats such as reedbeds, woodlands, and meadows. We’ll explain the importance of the work and ensure everyone feels confident and supported.
Whether it’s building a fence, clearing invasive species, or restoring a pond, we have a variety of tasks available throughout the year to suit all group sizes. No prior experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in.
Previous activities have included:
- Reedbed restoration at Hengistbury Head
- Ragwort removal at Iford Meadows
- Scrub clearance at Turbary Common
- Fence construction at Hicks Farm
- Path repair along the River Stour

Evening talks
Our Rangers and Centre staff are also available to give evening talks to local groups. These engaging sessions highlight the work we do, the benefits to the site, and how we help visitors enjoy the reserve.
If you’d like us to speak at your event, contact the Visitor Centre for current rates and availability.
