Bringing Ancient Hengistbury Head to Life

Performing the Past is a three-year project designed to connect local people with the rich archaeology of Hengistbury Head through hands-on experimental archaeology. For over 12,000 years, people have lived, worked, and crafted on this headland — and now, you can experience their world.

Learn by Doing

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Bournemouth University, the project uses practical activities to deepen public understanding and appreciation of this internationally significant site. With a £44,900 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, we aim to boost awareness and help protect the site’s archaeological heritage.

Get Involved

We’re building a welcoming team of volunteers to demonstrate ancient skills such as:

  • pottery making
