Garden Thoughts in the time of Covid - Blog 3

Posted on: 10/02/2021

The fantastic thing about volunteering in the garden at Hengistbury Head has been the friendship group we have built up. We are very different women; full of lives lived in a variety of ways. We are drawn together by a mutual love of garden and wildlife in a number of ways.

At the moment I miss our weekly meetings and sharing of the garden. This little blog is designed to keep a link between us until ‘we meet again.’

My photo this week shows a beautiful Amaryllis from a treated bulb. Behind it are a Pineapple plant and a Lemon tree. The Pineapple plant was bought from Lidl months ago and the top is growing well. I suppose tropical heat might create the orange, yellow glow I saw on the fruiting plants at Kew. Proudly, the Lemon tree plant is growing from a seed I planted three years ago. Unfortunately, it contracted the irritating scale insects, which crawled onto it outside in the summer. They are almost transparent and I have daily inspections to remove them. Wish me luck. Sue J.

This was my lesson!

Take your book with you when you want to read in the newly changed chairs which are nearer the heater. I came back to this!! Sue S.
